it's hard to see that You were the first
to include.
Surrounded by diversity, by tolerance
it's easy for me to forget that
You died for diversity--
They killed you for Your tolerance.
You raised up the poor, the lepers, the Samaritans
and whores--
dirt beneath holy men's feet.
You--the first to make compassion holy.
But you didn't just give them compassion,
you gave them dignity--
not just dignity, you made them equals
not just equals, you made them kings
in the only kingdom
that ever mattered.
